Collaborating with the Tokushukai Group

Illustration: Collaborating with the Tokushukai Group

The Tokushukai Group operates approximately 400 medical and care facilities nationwide, including 71 hospitals. We connect each hospital's electronic medical record servers through a closed network, aggregate medical data, and maintain the Tokushukai Medical Database (TMD), which contains data on more than 13 million patients. For details, see Tokushukai Medical Big Data.

Through collaboration with research institutions and companies with their own fields of research and expertise, we support innovative initiatives such as healthcare digital transformation using medical big data. Healthcare AI Platform Collaborative Innovation Partnership (HAIP)

To support AI development, including prediction of severe COVID-19, the Tokushukai Group was among the first to provide CT images and clinical data from severe COVID-19 cases to the Japan Medical Association's AI hospital promotion centre.

In recognition of this work on the AI hospital project, we joined the Healthcare AI Platform Collaborative Innovation Partnership (HAIP), a nonprofit mutual-benefit organisation established on 1 April 2021. To support the adoption and development of medical AI services, we provide medical data, verify AI development environments and assist with secure network design.

Diagnostic Imaging AI (Siemens Healthcare)

In 2019, Tokushukai General Incorporated Association Information System Department and Siemens Healthcare in Tokyo signed an agreement on joint research into AI-based diagnostic imaging.
The Tokushukai Group focused on providing the foundational data and implementing the systems needed for this research.

Some Group hospitals now use the diagnostic imaging support system developed through this collaboration, helping transform medical services. By using the system to reduce doctors' workload and for other purposes, they are working to improve both the quality and capacity of care.

The National MID-NET® Medical Information Database Project

MID-NET® is a national database infrastructure project that uses large volumes of anonymised medical information to support safety measures for pharmaceuticals and other products. It aims to build a database covering 10 million people. The Tokushukai Group has provided data since 2011. Ten of the 23 participating hospitals nationwide are Group hospitals, with a further 10 Group hospitals planning to participate. The Group contributes both a large volume of data and a high level of data standardisation.
